Council Holds Hearing for Crossing

December 21st, 2005

Public hearings were held Monday for the sale of city property to John Mathern and Mendota Homes for the Riverfront Redevelopment project, also known as “The Crossing of Northfield.”

No input was given during the public hearings that dealt with the sale of city property, as well as vacating existing easements on the Riverfront property which is along Minnesota Highway 3, bordered by the Cannon River, Second Street and St. Olaf Avenue.

The city will receive about $1.8 million for the Riverfront land. In the future, the city will purchase property within the development that is currently owned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation when the Highway 3 project is completed in 2007. That property will later be sold to Mendota Homes at a price that’s not yet determined.

The Northfield City Council voted unanimously for the sale of the land to Mendota Homes on the condition that they approve the final plat for the project.

A special meeting will be held next week to view the plat and make their final vote.
